At this time we have a 2 year old black female available for placement. Martha is a wonderful girl, we have simply decided that she will not bring our breeding program where we want to go in the future. She is on the smaller side for a female, weighing in at around 105 pounds. She is extremely loveable, housebroke and has good manners. Even though she is 2, this is still a puppy in Newfs.
As a result, she is active, sometimes very silly, and like all newfs, she demands a lot of attention.
She has had her OFA prelims, which came back as elbows Normal and hips good. She is heart screened by a Cardiologist and will be spayed before she leaves us. We are asking $1000 for her and this will include spaying. For more info feel free to email or call Mary at 314-437-5172

We often have other older puppies/young dogs that dont work out as we had hoped for breeding.
Like most Newfoundland breeders, we make our initial breeding evaluations at 6-12 months of age. Sometimes, we have a number of dogs to choose from, and we simply keep the best prospects and place the rest into pet homes. Normally, these types of pups are sold for $1250. They are generally housebroke, leash trained, have good manners and have some Obedience training, depending on their ages
They are up to date on all shots, wormings etc and are microchipped.
(Quite a bargain for those who want a puppy, since all the "hard part" is already done!!)

Sometimes, a pup makes our initial breeding evaluation, but then when we do their hip evals, they don't score as high as we had hoped.
These pups are generally housebroke, leash trained, have good manners and have some obedience training.
They are always up to date on all shots, wormings and microchipped.
The prices of these pups all depends on why we arent keeping them. Pups that get less than optimal hip evaluations (50th percentile on PennHip, or borderline or mild on an OFA prelim) are generally sold for $1000. These pups generally dont go on to develop significant hip issues, but are not pups that we would keep as part of our breeding program.

Dogs that get below a 40th percentile on PennHip, or Moderate or Severe on an OFA prelim are placed for the cost of spay/neuter only. Generally in the $200-300 range, and the dog will be spayed/neutered before leaving us.
.
Borderline hips normally show no symptoms at all. Mild hip dysplasia will normally not cause the dog problems, although pain meds may occasionally be needed as the dog ages. Moderate hip dysplasia is harder to determine outcomes, and can cause problems that require pain meds as the dog gets older, and sometimes therapy. Severe hip dysplasia can often require therapy or alternative treatments for the dog to be comfortable as it gets older. Usually, surgery is not absolutely necessary, even in the severe cases. Alternative treatments such as accupuncture, chiropractics, etc can be very effective. Perhaps the most effective treatment is an extensive excersize program to build up muscle tone in the dogs rear. Keep in mind, especially when dealing with moderate or severe hip or elbow dysplasia that these dogs arent "free".This "free" older pup or dog with health issues could easily turn out to be the most expensive dog you will ever own, and you must be prepared for that.

PLEASE be aware that NOTHING is concrete in hip dysplasia. Mildly dysplastic dogs will occasionally show severe sympotms, and severely dysplastic dogs will sometimes show few , if any, symptoms.

Basically, any dog we had hoped to show/breed that shows moderate or severe hips at their hip eval is placed free of charge, with a fee being charged only to cover their spay/neuter operation and final health exam before going to their new homes.

THESE DOGS ARE ALWAYS SPAYED/NEUTERED BEFORE BEING PLACED WITH THEIR NEW FAMILIES

These dogs are placed at no cost (other than the spay/neuter cost) because they are more "iffy", since there is already evidence of hip problems.
Maintaining a good weight, good exersize, etc can sometimes help prevent or delay any symptoms, but long term prognosis cannot be determined at a young age.
