HAVE FUN AND HAVE A NEWFIE DAY
1.  It is now considered acceptable to shave Newfs in hot climates. Recent research shows that removing some of the weight of their coat helps protect them from heat stroke and helps them better regulate their temperature.
2.  Daily grooming sessions of about 10 minutes is all that is required to keep your Newf happy, healthy and tangle free.
3.  The best time to start teaching your newf the "rules of the house" is when he is 12-16 weeks old.
Puppies younger than 12-16 weeks old do not have the attention span necessary to easily learn and remeber the rules.
4.  It is important to feed Newf puppies Large breed Puppy Food because it has higher protein and calcium levels for their fast growing bodies.
5.  It is best to wait until your pup is 12-16 weeks old before enrolling him in Obedience Training. Any younger than this and he doesnt have the attention span necessary for Obedience Training
6.  Newf puppies are considered fully mature at 12-18 months of age.
7.  Raisins are toxic to your Newf puppy.
8.  Newfs are giant breed dogs. Female Newfs commonly are in the 130-150 pound range, while male Newfs generally are well over 150 pounds.
9.  In addition to Vitamin C, glucosomine/chondroitan and flax seed meal. your Newf should also be supplemented with a quality daily multi-vitamin.
10.  It is acceptable to let your Newf jump off of tailgates etc as long as they are no further off the ground than he is tall.
12.  You can safely give your Newf  Aspirin, Tylenol and Motrin.
13.  Newfoundlands are soft mouthed dogs. This is a trait attributed to their heritage as life saving water dogs. As a result, some Newfs have a tendency to softly take your hand in their mouth and "lead" you places. This tendency SHOULD NOT be discouraged, as it makes it harder to train them for Water Work.
14.  Newfoundlands puppies should gain weight at a rapid pace. This allows them to quickly build their skeletal system so they can easily support their adult weights of 100-150 pounds.
15.  Newfoundland puppies should not gain more than 10 pounds a month.
16.  Short training sessions several times a day are as effective as one long training session a day.
11  Newfs can withstand extremely cold temps and may be left outside in sub-zero weather.
